So basically, I've successfully added enemy unit spawning, but I'm heavily considering just restarting the entire project but taking a different approach, and using what I've learned to get this far. Due to a lot of brute forcing, it just feels wrong, and buggy, for example theres weird gaps between units when they are attacking each other and the units that should be idling behind the attacking unit, stand in front of the attacking unit, because of the offset, I don't even remember why the offset was there, or where in the fucking code it was, or whats causing that, but thats just one example of the brute forcing and not really understanding what I'm doing that kind of sabotaged the project. I don't think I can continue with the current build, or even previous versions of this project, I think it would actually be way more productive if I just restarted. the project has become too complex and it doesnt have to be, I'm just overcomplicating things, I'll start a new project that's just the enemy units spawning, and the ability to spawn player units, and I'll build the rest of the game around that, instead of building the game around the playable game area, as in, the background elements. I think this is where I've gone wrong, the game should center around the interactions, the game is emergent from the interactions, I've put too much focus on aesthetics too early on, so I'm gonna restart, or this project will never get completed! I was trying to make it in Lovepotion for a few days, but I could never get it to work on my actual 3DS, so I'm probably definitely just sticking with C++ , since it's easier to me, and at least the skills I gain on this project will allow me to do so much more stuff moving forward,, anyway I think I'm just about ready to recommit myself to this. This is a really solid first attempt, I'll post a video of my current progress after I restart, so I'm actually actively working on the next version. I feel comfortable posting about it here because I'm not sure if anyone even reads this. they might when I'm deeper in the project and start posting about it on other sites, but I feel like this is a good space to talk about this without creating unnecessary hype or expectations, I was honestly gonna shadow drop it like I do with everything else but it honestly deserves a devlog. I'm not sure even how to do that properly yet, Idk what code snippets I'd wanna put in here, I guess I'm just talking, giving another update, letting people know I will be restarting this project, I've kinda softlocked myself from continuing in an efficient way, but I've learned a lot, and I'm happy with version 1! getting to this point again will be significantly easier, but I'm gonna be focusing on the units first things first! now for real I'm gonna take a break for few days, probably a week, maybe touch some grass, then reattempt this from scratch with a clear head !!
assman out
